The Fort Hunter
Auxiliary was established in 1950 for the purpose of supporting the volunteers
in the Fort Hunter Fire Company. “Support” originally meant providing emergency
feeding to the firefighters during major incidents or fires, and purchasing
items for the fire station that the company wanted. As times changed, so did
the Auxiliary mission. We still provide emergency feeding,
however, the Fire District and Fire Company purchase most of the needed
equipment and supplies themselves.
The Auxiliary
now serves many different purposes and hosts several functions during the year
for the Fire Company and our community. In October of each year, we plan the
annual Halloween Party which is paid for by the Fire Company for the children
in our Fire District. All children ages ten and under
are invited to attend in their costumes for an afternoon of fun and activities
in a safe Halloween environment.
In December, we host the annual Breakfast with Santa. In March there is an annual corn beef and cabbage dinner for St. Patrick's Day.
At Easter there is a breakfast where children can meet the Easter Bunny. The proceeds from
these events help us provide emergency feeding for the firefighters at major
incidents.
Being a member
of the Auxiliary involves only as much time as you are able to commit to.
Membership is open to individuals 16 years of age and older. We hold two
mandatory business meetings (March and September), and regular monthly meetings
on the second Monday of each month, for those who are able to attend and donate
their time and expertise for event planning. Like the Fire Company, we can always
use more help and new ideas, and we welcome you to join. Please contact a
